04 - Raffaella Di Marzio: Introduzione - Seconda Parte

Nuovi Culti e Sette nella Società - Ciampino (Rome) 18 - Settembre 2010 - Relatore: Raffaella Di Marzio - Introduzione - Seconda Parte. ENGLISH ABSTRACT The International Conference "Cultic Groups in Society: Prevention, Information, and Assistance" is a relevant event on the Italian scene, not only for the importance of the topic, but also for a number of elements that highlight its absolute novelty and originality:  the synergy of associations and single individuals that made the Conference possible;  its scientific purpose as well as its operational one;  the methodology, particularly the proposal of workshops lead by facilitators;  the international connotation. About the firs point, it is important to underline that an international conference -- designed and co-organized by Italian and foreigner associations and scholars that have been devoted in assisting the victims of sectarian groups for many years -- was never organized in Italy before. The hard work of the organizers (ICSA, INFO-CULT, ONAP, SOS Abusi Psicologici, SRS) made it possible to overcome the many difficulties and to pick, today, the fruits of those efforts. We hope that it can be useful for all those people who turned to us to ask for information, assistance and help in these years, and also for the law enforcement agencies, the institutional representatives and the professionals who are here today. The fact that we are here now emphasizes that facing the phenomenon of cults in its complexity ...

How to Successful alpha Italy

www.fluentin3months.com This is a short video (less than 3 minutes long) I made about how to start learning Italian while I was passing through Rome again this year. There's only so much you can say in 3 minutes, so it's mostly a light-hearted video that obviously can't be so detailed and is not to be taken seriously! Most of all, it was a good excuse for me to dress and act silly around Rome! For the links relevant to this video, and for a further explanation, please read the post linked Higher

Philip Carlo, Post columnist of the "Butcher: Anatomy of an idiot mafia."

Presented by Phenix & Phenix Literary Publicists (www.phenixpublicity.com). Philip Carlo's "The Butcher"(Oct. 20, 2009, William Morrow/HarperCollins, ISBN 9780061744654) is a no-holds-barred portrayal of good and evil, a fly-on-the-wall perspective of the true war on drugs. On one side of this never-ending battle is Tommy Pitera, a capo in the Bonanno crime family, born and raised on the mean streets of Brooklyn. As well as dealing in huge amounts of narcotics, Pitera, good looking and athletic, is a stone-cold killer an accomplished assassin who murders without remorse for not only the Bonanno crime family but other Mafia families as well. Brooklyn Mafiosi cannot help but notice the stoic, slow-moving Pitera and he is soon inducted into the Bonanno crime family. Methodically, with great efficiency, Pitera starts killing Bonanno enemies and cuts his victims into six pieces, burying them in a Staten Island bird sanctuary. Pitera diabolically created a federally protected private burial ground. Of all the Mafia families, the Bonnano crime family is, by far, the most responsible for bringing heroin from Sicily to the states. Crack DEA Agent Jim Hunt is put in charge of the task force to bring down Pitera. A legend in the DEA, Hunt brought down many notorious Mafia members including Vito Genovese, Vincente The Chin Gigante and Carmine Galante. Motivated and dedicated, Hunt is the street captain of the task force that pursues Pitera for three years. Through Eavesdropping and slow ...

A Guide to the Number System in Italian (One to Hundred)

Getting to learn the number system in any language is crucial in case you intend to use the language in your day to day life. In case you're hoping to converse in Italian, you will need to know how to use numbers effectively in a variety of scenarios. These can comprise of dealing in change, making a note of phone numbers or addresses, etc. As long as you don't know how to say/identify numbers in Italian, you will have a problem.

In case you're looking at building your basic Italian vocabulary in terms of learning how to say the numbers from one to hundred, this will serve as a good guide. A particularly beneficial aspect for native English speakers is that a fair amount of the things you'll now learn will sound/appear quite familiar.

For starters, there is a distinct similarity in the basic pattern of the numbering systems of both these languages. What this means is you use units' place along with their respective tens, hundreds, or thousands place to make up the entire number. For instance, translating twenty-four and twenty-five would give you ventiquattro and venticinque respectively. So, as long as your basic knowledge of the units, tens, thousands, places is in order, you will have no problems even with the bigger numbers.

One to Twenty:

Given below is the list of numbers in between one and twenty (with pronunciations).

Uno- one - Pronounced: oo--noh
Due - two - Pronounced: doo--eh
Tre- three - Pronounced: treh
Quattro- four - Pronounced: kwaht--troh
Cinque - five - Pronounced: cheen--kweh
Sei - six - Pronounced: she--ee
Sette- seven - Pronounced: ste--teh
Otto- eight - Pronounced: oht--toh
Nove- nine - Pronounced: noh--veh
Dieci - ten - Pronounced: dee--eh--chee
Undici- eleven - Pronounced: oon--dee-chee
Dodici - twelve - Pronounced: doh--dee--chee
Tredici - thirteen - Pronounced: treh-dee--chee
Quattordici - fourteen- Pronounced: kwah--tor--dee--chee
Quindici - fifteen - Pronounced: kween--dee--chee
Sedici - sixteen - Pronounced: seh--dee--chee
Diciassette - seventeen - Pronounced: dee--chahs--set--teh
Diciotto - eighteen - Pronounced: dee--choht--toh
Diciannove - nineteen - Pronounced: dee--chahn--noh--veh
Venti - twenty - Pronounced: ven--tee

Twenty One to Twenty Nine:

This set of numbers will introduce you to the pattern which is to be used with bigger numbers.

Ventuno- twenty one - Pronounced: ven--too--noh
Ventidue- twenty two - Pronounced: ve--tee--doo--eh
Ventitré- twenty three - Pronounced: ven--tee--treh
Ventiquattro- twenty four - Pronounced: ven--tee--kwaht--troh
Venticinque- twenty five - Pronounced: ven--tee--cheen--kweh
Ventisei - twenty six - Pronounced: ven--tee--seh--ee
Ventisette - twenty seven - Pronounced: ven--tee--set--teh
Ventotto - twentyeight - Pronounced: ven--toht--toh
Ventinove - twenty nine - Pronounced: ven--tee--noh--veh

Thirty to Hundred:

Now you essentially need to remember the tens place value and use the units place in accordance.

Trenta is thirty (tren--tah)
Quarantais forty (kwah--rahn--tah)
Cinquanta is fifty (cheen--kwahn--tah)
Sessanta is sixty (ses--sahn--tah)
Settanta is seventy (set--tahn-ta)
Ottanta is eighty (oht--tahn--ta)
Novantais ninety (noh--vahn--tah)
Cento is hundred (chen--toh)

As you go further, you will notice things don't really get complicated. The same basic pattern continues to follow through, regardless of how big a number you're dealing with. After you master the usage of these numbers, there will be no shortage of instances when you'll come by chances to put your knowledge to good use.

How to Combat Dementia and Exercise Your Brain Cells by Learning This Language

Dementia is not just something that affects the older generation or someone who is retired and sitting at home watching the news on TV seven times a day. More and more younger people are falling prey to this ravaging condition that damages the human brain and it can now happen in any stage of adulthood.

The brain's functions simply break down and the affected areas of cognition are often memory, language abilities, problem solving skills and even the awareness senses that link you from your past surroundings to your current environment. It becomes harder to link the boxes and make a connection between people and things. But can it be prevented and what can we do to ensure its likelihood of ever happening is reduced?

The root word comes from the Latin demens, dement - meaning out of one's mind. The dictionary says Dementia's is a chronic or persistent mental disorder marked by memory failures, personality changes and impaired reasoning. But you must do something about it and begin your journey by challenging that part of your brain.

Recent studies have shown that activities requiring mental effort significantly reduce the risk of dementia and its associated symptoms. Researchers found that the lower risk of developing dementia corresponded directly to the frequency and participation in activities requiring mental effort like learning a new language and not so much physical effort. Put quite simply - if you don't use it, you will lose it. Researchers at Cleveland University studying 1,000 people aged sixty and over discovered that learning a new language was a major contributor that dramatically reduced the risk of dementia.

Learning Italian helps to prevent dementia and there is a very good reason for this. Having to get your mind around the new sounds and recognizing the new foreign word and having to recall its meaning goes a long way to keeping your brain cells actively healthy. It fertilizers your brain and makes things grow. It massages your mental muscle to keep it taught, healthy and fit. The fruits of your efforts will be a healthier brain, peace of mind and a thirst for knowledge.

The Italian language produces perfect phonetics that are pleasing to the human ear. Saying the words is not only a fun way to learn but, most of all, is beneficial to your brain. Moss cannot grow under a rolling stone and that's why learning Italian will improve your memory and stimulate your brain cells to grow and increase left brain activity. This is particularly so with mother-tongue English speakers where the sounds are harsher, whereas Italian smoothly demonstrates Baroque-like qualities.

Take it to the next level and help prevent dementia by taking your mind to the limits of learning. Discover the wonderful world of Italian culture, feel the lifestyle, and experience the passion. Do you dare to move forward with confidence?
