Rocket Sign Language

bit.ly Rocket Sign Language was developed by a company who consistently does an excellent job when it comes to creating excellent online language programs. They have created similar online language programs for French, Spanish, Japanese, and German to name a few. They are the very best when it comes to online programs for learning a foreign language. However, that being said, learning sign language somewhat different so I needed to see for myself if they could do it justice. Well, they did! Check out my personal review Here bit.ly

Practical Italian Grammar

Practical Italian Grammar Review

Practical Italian Grammar Feature

Practical Italian Grammar Overview

"As its title implies, the present work aims to present in the simplest form the elements of the Italian language. In preparing it, the author has made no attempt at completeness on the contrary, his efforts have tended to omit whatever seemed to him non-essential and apt to cause confusion in the beginner's mind. The needs of our High School and College classes have guided him throughout his task and, believing that extensive drill should be emphasized in the study of any modern language, he has consistently followed the system of giving few rules and many exercises in each lesson. The grammar is taught inductively. Experience has shown that by placing the rules after the examples, the principles of language are more likely to leave a lasting impression upon the student: they appear to him more concrete, more real."

The Reluctant Saint The Life of St. Joseph of Cupertino Part 2

The Reluctant Saint is a 1962 film which tells a somewhat fictionalized version of the story of Joseph of Cupertino, a 17th Century Italian saint. It stars Maximilian Schell as Joseph, as well as Ricardo Montalban, Lea Padovani, Akim Tamiroff, and Harold Goldblatt. The movie was written by John Fante and Joseph Petracca and directed by Edward Dmytryk. Saint Joseph of Cupertino was an Italian saint. He was said to have been remarkably unclever, but prone to miraculous levitation and intense ecstasies. This movie follows Joseph (Maximilian Schell) from his final days living at home with his mother (Lea Padovani). Because of his slow wits, she has kept him in school despite his being a grown man, older than the other students. He is seen bearing patiently and good-heartedly with being ridiculed by fellow villagers, and enduring failed attempts at work as a laborer. At the insistence of his mother (who saw no viable alternatives), we see him joining a Franciscan monastery through the influence of his uncle (Harold Goldblatt), an authority at the monastery. But trouble follows Joseph wherever he goes, including the monastery, because of his slow wits. Eventually his good heart is noticed by a visiting higher up in the church hierarchy (Akim Tamiroff), who orders that he be trained to be a priest. Despite his incapacity for the necessary scholarly studies, and preference for merely managing sheep and other animals in the monastery's stable, Joseph does become a priest. Despite ...

How to alpha acquirements Italian

www.fluentin3months.com This is a short video (less than 3 minutes long) I made about how to start learning Italian while I was passing through Rome again this year. There's only so much you can say in 3 minutes, so it's mostly a light-hearted video that obviously can't be so detailed and is not to be taken seriously! Most of all, it was a good excuse for me to dress and act silly around Rome! For the links relevant to this video, and for a further explanation, please read the post linked above.

Use Hand Gestures to Navigate Your Way Through Italy

Without speaking a word of Italian, you can explore Italy. You're ready to conquer Il Bel Paese armed with just an outgoing personality, a genuine smile, and Italian hand gestures. Or, are you?

Still, before you go, you are better off learning Italian. But utilize these Italian hand signals to help you.

Un momento!

You can aptly translate this as "One moment, please." You can do this by pointing your index finger upwards, which basically looks like the number one. You can also use this hand signal to convey "May I speak, please?", which will then require that you study Italian.

Ho fame

This translates to "I am hungry." Hit your stomach with the side of your flat hand to convey an obvious plea to your hosts to feed you. If you're tired of pizza and pasta, learn Italian to know the difference between pollo and polipo. You'll also be able to understand Italian food better and avoid allergies.

Ehi tu, vieni qui

This is a hand gesture you will do well to use with caution. It translates to "Hey! Come here, you!", which can look either obnoxious or sexually inviting. Most Americans apply a similar come hither signal. You'll be better off learning to say "Prego, potete aiutarli?" when you want someone to come and assist you.

Silenzio

Similar to its universal counterpart, the Italian "silence" signal is made by pressing your index finger to your lips. But there's a difference between the hand gesture and effectively communicating why you want silence. This proves that you still need to study Italian!

Idea!

Put your hand on your head and look happy, and you've successfully emphasized that you have an idea. When you tell them about this idea, however, learning Italian will come in handy.

Perfetto

This is achieved with the thumb and index fingers making a circle similar to the American gesture for "okay." This is utilized to praise someone - very useful if you cannot speak Italian.

Scusi, devo andare al bagno

If you want to go to the rest room, hold up your index and middle fingers and put on a pained expression. This is important if you require frequent bathroom trips.

Indeed, Italian hand signals are sheer poetry. Learning Italian is still handy, though, to communicate with the locals and read Italian street signs. You can opt to get the best of both worlds.

The Italian Language Learning

Most of the people get their first taste of Italian language learning at school, and unluckily this experience frequently puts them off from carrying on to learn further. There is nothing amusing in being made to sit down as the teacher baffles you with the Italian language that in all honesty they didn't actually want to learn in the first place. After all that's what phrase books were made for  right? This is normally many peoples attitude when it comes to learning to speak a new language. However attitudes change as the individual gets older. The person goes to Italy on holiday and wished that they had spent more time in the Italian language learning classes to improve their experience. It is as though the individual would never be able to Master in Italian.

Choices for Learning Italian

One choice is to go to the store and purchase  one of those off the shelf instruction  Italian courses that they  have probably heard so much about. The trouble with these kind of Italian language learning courses is that they are difficult to master and as a result one get exhausted from reading it and puts it away, never to be seen  again. Another choice is to take a language class but most of the people are put off by the classroom position as it reminds them too much of school.

There is a third choice however and one that permits a person to work at their own rate, in their own home for as little or as long as the individual likes. This choice is Rocket Italian. This is a colloquial Italian course that is obtained online. It provides anyone looking to Italian language learning with a way of utilizing lessons and games to make a sound knowledge base of the Italian language. So if you would like to become  fluent in Italian the next time you take a holiday there then they should utilize Rocket Italian

This Rocket Language course has a better free course than most of the other courses available. It's really quite inclusive; unlike the very short and not-very-helpful Rocket French free course; this one really elaborates many grammatical conventions and vocabulary. On top of that, you get free audio pronunciation guides in each of the six free lessons available. So basically this is a good free course and one worth attempting, if only to study basic Italian.

Learn How to Speak Italian

"I'm terrible at learning other languages. I'm lucky to be able to speak my own." How many times have you heard that? You may even have said it yourself. But for some reason, you've come to a point in your life when you need to figure out how to learn Italian. Business? Travel? Friendship or romance? It doesn't matter - you've got all the tools you need to learn conversational Italian, and they're positioned on either side of your head. That's right - your ears.

Amazingly, research shows that listening is pretty much all you have to do. Children learn from listening to their parents. In the beginning we listen as babies to the sound our parents make when they speak their home tongue; we don't understand the individual words, but we sort out the sounds that belong to our language from all other possible vocal sounds. Eventually we begin to attach meaning to certain sounds we hear; your Mother may ask "Where is your nose?" and we touch our noses. Finally we begin to try making some of those sounds ourselves. If our Father or Mother understands our speaking attempts, they will respond joyfully and will reward us verbally. If they do not understand our speaking attempts they will show it in their body language meaning we need to try again until they do. This is exactly how to learn Italian too!

But suppose you don't have Italian parents, or even a neighborhood Nonni. It's not too late. If there is a nearby school, university, or community center that offers Italian classes, consider taking advantage of the opportunity. But if there's not, or classes don't fit into your schedule, choose a good audio-based language program to learn Italian. Make sure it's audio-based; you will never get a authentic Italian accent out of any text book learning. It is a good idea to learn Dostoyevsky by reading it, however when it comes to learn the Italian language then it is not such a good idea!

When you've learned some basic Italian words and phrases and got use to the sound of the language, then you must do everything you can to hear Italian spoken by authentic speakers and speak it yourself whenever you can. Try to watch as many Italian DVDs as you can with subtitles in the beginning and then without. Go to see an Italian opera, and try to understand what they're singing about. Visit your closes Italian restaurant and find out if anyone there spoke Italian; they probably do, and would be happy to chat in their native tongue. If your community has a civic association or an Italian-American club, make new friends. They will be more than delighted to teach you how to learn Italian.

Italian is a dynamic, living language, the language of Dante just as much as it is the language of the Godfather. Learning it will give you a window on not only a beautiful country (which you may sometime want to visit), but on a wonderful culture made up of vibrant people. As you discover how to learn Italian, you'll find you've opened the door to a whole new world.

St.Athanasius Coptic Orthodox Theological College-Melbourne-Australia.

+St.Athanasius Coptic Orthodox Theological College-Melbourne-Australia: www.sacotc.org http Welcome to SACOTC! For many years students from Melbourne desired to study theology at a Coptic Orthodox Theological College. This became possible only through distance learning units offered by Pope Shenouda III Coptic Orthodox Theological College in Sydney, which led to the graduation of several students. One of the main priorities of His Grace Bishop Suriel after his enthronement as Bishop of Melbourne and Affiliated Regions in December, 1999 was to establish a Theological College in Melbourne to cater for students all over the diocese. In September 2000 a Catholic Convent was purchased in Coburg to accommodate Saint Athanasius Coptic Orthodox Theological College. In that same year a papal decree No. 21/29 was issued by His Holiness Pope Shenouda III establishing the College. The College strives to promote high quality courses by qualified professionals in all fields of theology. The aim of the College is to equip students for ministry in the Church and to promote sound Orthodox teaching. This may be towards ministry in the priesthood or as lay teachers working as religious educators in our churches and schools as well as training youth leaders and preparing people for the mission field throughout the diocese including the South Pacific. Saint Athanasius Coptic Orthodox Theological College is working towards achieving recognition as a Recognised Teaching Institution in the near ...

Italian Translation Into English - Days & Months

I have an ongoing interest in Italian and Italian life in general. I hope this article Italian Translation into English - Days & Months' will help those trying to learn the Italian language. If these articles prove of interest then I will continue writing a whole series on these subjects.

English / Italian Translation of the Months of the Year

gennaio -- January

febbraio -- February

marzo -- March

aprile -- April

maggio -- May

giugno -- June

luglio -- July

agosto -- August

settembre -- September

ottobre -- October

novembre -- November

dicembre -- December

Unlike the English translation, in Italian the names for days of the week are not capitalised.

Here is an Italian English Translation of some other useful phrases;

Che mese è? - What month is it?

In che mese siamo? - What month are we in?

È dicembre - Its December

Siamo in dicembre - We are in December

Italian / English Translation of the Days of the Week

lunedì -- Monday

martedì -- Tuesday

mercoledì -- Wednesday

giovedì -- Thursday

venerdì -- Friday

sabato -- Saturday

domenica -- Sunday

Again, unlike the English translation, in Italian the names for days of the week are not capitalised. So the translation is not only the letters but also the capitalisation.

Here is an Italian Translation of some other useful phrases;

oggi - today

domani - tomorrow

Oggi è martedì - Today is Tuesday

Domani è giovedi - Tomorrow is Thursday

For me there is another side to this translation. Mondays in England v Mondays in Italy.
Generally an English Monday is rainy and depressing. But lets translate that to an Italian Monday. Sure you still have the daily commute. But it's much more likely to be a sunny day (even in winter). So even though you might wish you were still at the beach or skiing down a mountain, you feel much more happy. Especially as you stop for a coffee and take the time to talk Italian with strangers before starting work.

Learn Basic Italian

Italy's official language is of course Italian. Standard Italian, which was adopted as the official language following the unification of the country in 1861, is based on the Tuscan dialect. Prior to unification, each region of the country had developed its own dialect (many of these dialects are still in use today), which although mutually intelligible, were distinct.

As well as Italian, a wide variety of other languages are also spoken in various parts of Italy. These include including Neapolitan, Sardinian, Sicilian and Venetian. Italy is also home to communities that speak German, dialects of Greek and Croat, as well as Albanian, Catalan, Franco-Provençal, Friulian, Ladin and Slovene.

If you plan on visiting Italy, whether for business or just a vacation, knowing how to speak the language can be a very useful skill. Being able to speak to the natives in their own language will certainly add to the experience, and in the case of business, can be of major assistance.

You might amazed at how easy it is to get started with learning the language. There are many resources that can help you learn basic Italian in virtually no time at all, and be ready to immerse yourself in the language, and perhaps even become fluent. Some of the aids and resources that can help you include books and audio courses, Internet web sites that teach the Italian language, and of course computer software, including the very popular Rosetta Stone software package. With the help of these aids, the learning process really can be surprisingly easy.

Learn Italian Language

The official language throughout Italy is the Italian language. Because Italy was not unified as a single country until relatively recently (1861), there are many different dialects of Italian that developed around the country, and which continue to be in use today. Each of these dialects are distinct, but nevertheless are generally mutually intelligible. For official business, a dialect is known as "Standard Italian", which is based on the Tuscan dialect is used.

You should however be aware that Italian is not the only language used in Italy. Various other languages are spoken in some parts of the country, including Neapolitan, Venetian, Sardinian and Sicilian. Additionally, there are communities that speak other languages including dialects of Greek and Croat, Albanian, Catalan, Franco-Provençal, Friulian, German, Ladin and Slovene.

No doubt you are aware of the benefits of learning the Italian language. When you visit Italy, regardless of whether its for a vacation or on a business trip, knowing the language can certainly make your life a lot easier. You might also be surprised at how much easier it is to learn a new language than it used to be in the old days; today, apart from books and audio courses, there are some wonderful software packages for learning Italian (including the very popular Rosetta Stone Italian software), and indeed many Italian language training web sites that can be really useful too. With all these aids and tools available, you'll be amazed at how easy it can be to become fluent in the language.

Why learn Italian?

I have lived in Italy for ten years and now speak the language fluently. Unbelievably it was surprisingly easy to do and I always thought I was bad at languages.

To help others my wife (a language teacher) and I have put together a brief guide on what we have learned through our experience. Our hope is that our advice will assist you in learning Italian easily and quickly.

Why learn Italian?

Because the Italian language is without any doubt one of the most beautiful languages on earth, a language that seems to capture the extraordinary essence and spirit of Italy. Learn Italian and you will find your time in Italy so much more enjoyable.

Italians really appreciate foreigners making an effort to speak Italian, no matter how poor the attempt, you will find Italians will encourage you.

How to Start Learning Italian?

First the good news is that learning Italian is easy. I spoke very little Italian on arrival in Italy. I did a great CD course - details available at the bottom of the page - and I followed this with a course at the Dante Alighieri School.

I am now completely fluent and I can assure you I am far from a genius so if I can do it anyone can. It takes perseverance and it obviously helps if you can spend time in Italy but this is not essential.Let's Begin

We will start with the best books and computer/CD Courses and then move in some of the schools that we recommend.

15-minute Italian: Speak Italian in Just 15 Minutes a Day (Eyewitness Travel 15-Minute)

15-minute Italian: Speak Italian in Just 15 Minutes a Day (Eyewitness Travel 15-Minute) Review

After returning from my honeymoon in Florence, I knew I had to learn "la bella lingua". Not fancying myself a linguist I despaired of my ability to follow through on my task. Then I found 15 Minute Italian. I was able to work through the book (frequently spending more than 15 minutes on each section) and really gain a basic understanding of the language and more importantly the confidence to delve more deeply into the language. While you'll never attain fluency of a language with this method, it is a FANTASTIC way to begin. Highly recommended!!

Premium Rocket Italian Review - How good is, and it will work for you?

This Rocket Italian Premium review is independent and honest. We wrote it in response to the simple fact that a good deal of the Rocket Italian reviews we have read are nothing more than sales pitches, a lot of them promoting something and tainted for that reason. We won't mock your intelligence, and we'll only make objective observations! Let us come at the review from a different approach also. The end game is learning to speak Italian, therefore the only way to review any program is to determine whether it will help you learn naturally and effectively, and additionally how it aligns with the optimal language learning techniques.

Nobody will dispute the reality that for mastering how to have conversations in the Italian language functionally you must use immersion strategies - indeed no other approach is anywhere close to as effective. Therefore, as we consider this Rocket Italian review, we will match up the numerous features of the program with the immersion methodology and see how it fares! Ready?

Rocket Italian includes in excess of thirty (30) alternative conversation settings, but more relevant these are in areas, topics, and subjects which will form the basis of your first Italian conversations. Plainly put, Rocket does the best job we have seen with targeted audio immersion. Clearly a lot of thought, research, and feedback have gone into developing the content for relevance. And the materials which come to help you through these modules are just as good and will serve you well!

Conjugation of tenses and verbs and vocabulary expansion are addressed as well. But even here concepts of immersion are used to great effect. As an Italian learning approach, the degree of integration and immersion is truly without comparison based on what we have seen! If you are in the majority, then these immersion approaches will result in the most effective Italian learning experience without a doubt. This is a way for learning the Italian language in the most natural fashion, you don't feel like you are taking classes or in a classroom at all. Quite the opposite in fact!

Rocket never boasted about their graphics, and we can see why. They have spent more time on the inner workings of the program, so if you are a visual person you will have to make do with basic graphics.

Other features include helpful Italian-learning online forums and learning lounges. These surprised us with their levels of activity and relevance, and these forums give you some surprisingly useful insights about how to use the product most effectively. Unique to Rocket as far as we know is that lifetime updates are included.

The outcome of our Rocket Italian Premium review is that this is a great solution that we can recommend to those looking to learn conversational Italian. The amount of creative effort that went into the content is very impressive, and the learning style which highlights immersion matches exactly with the best way of learning a language naturally.  If you want to learn to speak Italian in casual conversation you will not find a better solution at any price, yet the price is very competitive!

How do you say something? Learn Italian sentence.

So you want to learn Italian phrases for whatever reason. This article will review some often used words and sayings to help you speak Italian in various circumstances. Consider this a sampling that may persuade you to jump into learning more Italian through a more in depth program.

The first phrases you should learn in Italian are the polite ones. Native speakers will be much more forgiving of your less than perfect Italian if you are courteous. Try these:

Good morning/afternoon =Buongiorno/Buonpomeriggio
Thank you and goodbye= Grazie ed arrivederci
I'm learning Italian = Sto imparando l'italiano
Excuse me = Scusarsi
Pardon me = Prego
How do you say...? Come farla dice...?Basic everyday conversation is always useful. Chances are you will be meeting new people after you try to learn Italian phrases either through business or pleasure. So you will probably tell others about yourself as part of the conversation. These could be some common statements:

My name is...= Mi chiamo...
I was born on the....,...,... = Ero nato sul (day) di (month)
I am... years old = Ho... anni
I am from the United States = Sono dagli Stati Uniti
I live in...= Vivo a...
My favourite sport is......= Il mio sport preferito è...
My favourite food is......= Il mio cibo preferito èSince Italian is considered a Romance language, you could use it to turn on the charm to a significant other. If you learn Italian phrases about love, maybe you become the romantic that lucky someone has been looking for? Here are a few to get you started:

I love you = L'amo
I want to kiss you = Voglio baciarla
You are so beautiful = lei è così bello
I will love you forever = L'amerò per sempre
I really like you= Mi piaci molto tuAs you can see, Italian is a beautiful language with its own style and grammar behind it. If you are reading this article, it must mean you are Interested in speaking Italian. If you learn Italian phrases from this article, you are just skimming the surface language of the old Europe, I suggest you check out, expand your knowledge and start a formal program to learn Italian well.

Software Best Italian - Guide for third software package, the best Italian online.

The Italian language may just be the most beautiful language on the planet, everything that is said in Italian just sounds so...good. Anyway, you can make learning Italian a lot easier on yourself if you pick the right course...

1. Tell Me More Italian

The Tell Me More Italian program has several features to it that make it a great course: the voice recognition software probably being the feather in the cap. Tell Me More is a fantastic program for those of you that are not quite beginners in learning Italian, but for absolute beginners it's not the best Italian language software for you.

2. Rosetta Stone

Rosetta Stone has recently upgraded most of their entire catalog to version 3.0, which includes their Italian program. I like the new version, it adds a little more variation and cultural sensitivity to each language that it is teaching. In any case, if you don't know how Rosetta Stone works, it works on word/picture association and zero translation, so basically it throws you in and makes you figure out things by yourself, like how we learned our first language. So Rosetta Stone's goal is to accuractely simulate how we learned our first language as little kids, and to an extent it succeeds. Unfortunately it costs more than $500US for the whole package, which is just out of reach for most people.

3. Rocket Italian

Rocket Italian is the newest entry in the list, it uses a combination of good old audio and software to teach Italian. I think that Rocket Italian is probably the best Italian language software for beginners, due to it's gentle learning curve, emphasis on fun and affordable price. Beginners should look no further, however if you consider yourself more advanced then there are alternatives.

Italian Journalism: A Critical Anthology (Manchester Italian Texts) Overview

This is a critical anthology of extracts from Italian newspapers and an introduction to the workings of the Italian press. It should help the reader to identify, describe and analyze a range of texts that form "the daily paper". The anthology includes cartoons as well as in-depth reports, crime stories and coverage of major political events from the death of Stalin to the scandals that brought down the First Republic. For students of Italian approaching the language through the country's media, this provides a primary text. Each extract is printed in Italian with notes, glosses and a critical introduction in English.
